The School of Life Sciences has commissioned a logo that demonstrates their commitment to supporting diversity in science.
Launched during Black History Month, the logo depicts a Black woman in a lab coat, surrounded by a rainbow of colours. The logo was produced after discussions with the School’s Race Equity Advocates, who described how having a mechanism for staff and students to demonstrate their solidarity with minority groups in science would provide support and confidence within the School.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion co-lead, Dr Katy Petherick, said: “We recognise that being part of a minority group within the School may feel isolating and people might not feel confident seeking support and advice from others, especially those that they don’t know. All staff and students will be able to use this logo to demonstrate their allyship to under-represented individuals.”
The School is encouraging staff to use the logo on email signatures, teaching material and office doors. The logo can be . Badges will also be available and can be collected from the School Office (open Tuesday-Thursdays, 10am-3pm).
