Supporting your career development with Achievement and Development Reviews
By: Organisational Development
Last updated: Wednesday, 5 June 2024
The Achievement and Development Review (ADR) cycle has begun, running from 1 May until 30 September for all colleagues. ADRs support you to set professional and career development goals, to measure success and progress against your objectives, and to develop new objectives.
The feedback collated in the ADR staff survey in November was shared with the People & Culture Board in May. A number of improvements have been made to the process:
- Word versions of the forms will be available (alongside the PDF versions)
- Form length will be reduced while the content is kept the same
- ADR guidance will be consolidated into one document and include support on writing SMART objectives
- All colleagues across the University now have the same ADR window, which runs from 1 May to 30 September
You can find out more about next steps, whether you are a reviewer or reviewee, on the ADR webpage. Updated ADR forms and guidance will be available there from 20 June.
If you have already begun to undertake ADR conversations, the current forms are still valid. There is no requirement to copy over the content to the revised forms unless you wish to do so.
Prepare for your ADR with our workshops
The Organisational Development (OD) team is running workshops to help you prepare for an Achievement and Development Review, and these are suitable for both reviewees and reviewers to attend. These workshops will explore how to plan, prepare and structure a meaningful ADR conversation, and how to create objectives that are SMART and outcome focused.
