Cosmic Explosions - 2024 Sussex Astronomy Christmas Lecture
Thursday 12 December 17:00 until 18:15
AV视频 Campus : Jubilee Building, Room LRG-LT
Speaker: Professor Stephen Wilkins
This December, join us for a special Christmas edition of the Sussex Astronomy Lecture as Professor Stephen Wilkins presents Cosmic Explosions: The Biggest Bangs in the Sky. While we often think of stars as fixed, stars can actually explode! This happens for various reasons—running out of fuel, stealing material from a companion, or colliding with another star. These cosmic explosions release vast amounts of energy, creating and dispersing elements essential for life on Earth—after all, we are made of stardust!
Professor Wilkins will explore these explosive phenomena, showcasing images from the James Webb Space Telescope and other state-of-the-art observatories. This family-friendly talk is suitable for ages 8+, making it a perfect addition to your Christmas season!
To avoid missing out on this festive event, we recommend reserving your spot in advance, though drop-ins are also welcome.
