Full Module Description
This module, which serves as a follow up to the ‘Social Justice, Leadership & Organising: Theory’ module, offers a unique experience from other university courses. Students are placed within a local community organisation and complete a placement with them for a minimum of 30 hours across the semester. To ensure that placements are organised to meet an identified community need, students and partner organisations have access to ongoing support from the University and Citizens UK. Students are asked to continually reflect on their understanding of and engagement with the community organisation, developing insights into what ‘social justice’, ‘leadership’ and ‘community’ mean within the context of their placement.

Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate how you have applied an understanding of relevant contextual and conceptual ideas of community organisation in relation to your host organisation.
Reflect on the appropriate skills needed to support the aims and objectives of specific community and voluntary contexts.
Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the opportunities, benefits and challenges surrounding successful volunteering and community engagement within a specific context.
