Applied Technology

Module H7129

Module details for 2022/23.

15 credits

FHEQ Level 3 (sub-degree)

Module Outline

The Applied Technology module develops skills in the application of mathematical skills to real world scientific and engineering tasks. Application areas include basic mechanics such as equations of motion, static framework analysis and materials, engineering design such as drag, lift and pressure and electrical principles and electronic devices. Students learn to analyse real- world engineering and design problems, and how to use scientific data to inform component selection and make informed design choices. Students consider the design process from requirements analysis, generation of possible solutions, simulation and evaluation of those options. Students learn basic practical electronics laboratory skills.

Module learning outcomes

Describe basic factual and theoretical knowledge of underlying concepts and principles in electrical and mechanical technology.

Apply their knowledge of mechanical and electrical technology to simple practical design problems.

Demonstrate basic electronic laboratory skills and the use of these to build simple electronic configurations.
