Module details for 2023/24.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 3 (sub-degree)
Module Outline
This module aims to introduce you to the mathematical methods and techniques commonly used in business, finance and economics and other social sciences. In this Autumn Term module, you will develop confidence in reading and using simple mathematical terms, formulae and expressions.
There will be a strong emphasis on practical applications to "real-world" issues, for example through looking at economic, business and finance data and applying ideas such as discount rates to investment decisions. The skills developed in this module will also be transferable for use in other disciplines outside business and the social sciences, as well as in everyday life.
Module learning outcomes
Use Simple mathematical notation and language
Manipulate and use algebraic formulae accurately
Recognise the underlying mathematical problem in a range of different contexts
Solve such mathematical problems and interpret the results
