Module Outline
This module introduces quantum computation, providing its motivations and the foundation to describe quantum information processing on an elementary, hardware-independent level. Students will be provided with a framework in which to understand how quantum mechanical systems represent and process data, and the mathematical tools to use this framework. This module is targeted at anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in quantum information systems or quantum applications and will prove essential for anyone who aims to understand in detail how quantum technology is used to process data.

Describe the difference between quantum states and randomness
Analyse and interpret simple quantum processes
Present simple communication procedures, such as quantum teleportation
Describe potential applications of quantum computing technology
