On this module, you’ll cover:

  • temperature, heat, phase change and thermal expansion
  • mechanisms of heat transfer
  • the ideal gas law and kinetic theory
  • thermodynamics
  • simple harmonic motion and elasticity
  • static fluids and fluids in motion.

Module learning outcomes

  • Analyse and identify the correct physics concepts in problems involving heat, thermal energy, thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, elasticity, fluid dynamics.
  • Mathematically solve simple problems involving heat, thermal energy, thermodynamics, simple harmonic motion, elasticity, fluid dynamics.
  • Demonstrate a sufficient understanding in the material of the module for subsequent core modules in physics and engineering which include properties of matter.
