Explore the ways that political change has led to European integration becoming increasingly politicised through the growth of Euroscepticism.
Taking a comparative approach, we look across Europe to consider trends and variations. You’ll consider:
- how Euroscepticism plays out in domestic politics of European states
- public opinion on European integration
- the party politics of Euroscepticism
- the effects of Euroscepticism on policy and politics, including the case of Brexit.
Module learning outcomes
- Be able to account for the changing politics of Euroscepticism in European states
- Develop an argument based on academic sources in an organised and structured way
- Critically evaluate and use appropriate theories or approaches to the study of politics to account for the politics of Euroscepticism
- Demonstrate the analytical skills required to carry out independent and original research related to the politics of Euroscepticism
