Biography

M.P. is group leader of the

He is authors of about 105 publications in the most reputed international journals (including 1 Nature, 1 Nature Photonics, 2 Nature Physics, 3 Nature Communications, 10 PRL., 8 Appl. Phys. Lett., 15 Opt. Lett., 13 Opt. Express. etc.) and more than 200 communications to international conferences (Including 52 invited talks, 1 Plenary  and 2 Post-Dead Line). According to google scholar, his an overall H-index is 49  with about 7600 citations.

He is the author of 3 patents, 3  Book Chapters and several scientific reviews.

He is ERC Laureate, two-time Marie Curie Fellow and Fellow of the HEA. He is a reviewer for several journal organizations and editor of Optics Express (Optical Society of America). He a member of the reviewing pool of funding agencies such as the EPSRC (UK) and the Italian Ministry of the Education and University (ITALY), NSERC (CANADA). He is Global Young Academy alumnus.

He also served as committee CHAIR and member in several scientific societies. He is the general chair of the OSA Integrated Photonics Research conference (IPR).

His research interests include the following main lines:

- The experimental investigation of optical nonlinear wave propagation in soft matter, nonlocal anisotropic media and liquid crystals. This topic includes the study of nonlocal optical spatial solitons and their phenomenology, and more recently, of the interplay of nonlinearities with different temporal scales sustaining optical bullets and parametric generation in self-confined beams.

-The experimental investigation of devices for the enhancement and the manipulation of THz waves, including sub-wavelength micro and nano-imaging systems at THz wavelengths; M.P. is supported by a ERC Consolidator Grant and by the Marie Curie Career Integration Grant for this research activity.

-Nonlinear optical effects in nanostructured integrated optics, from signal processing to ultrafast clocks.
