On this module, you will critically analyse datasets to support decision-making. You’ll use your quantitative skills from previous studies and have the opportunity to further specialise.

You’ll learn:

  • to extract valuable data insights and effectively communicate them to varied audiences
  • about the importance of theory in data mining to inform the analysis and interpretation of results
  • to use standard software tools to manage data for academic and business applications
  • to critically analyse datasets and produce reports independently.


The skills you’ll gain are essential for academic and business careers:

  • creation of reports including data analysis and data visualisations
  • application of theory to practice.

Contact hours and workload

This module is approximately 150 hours of work. This breaks down into about 33 hours of contact time and about 117 hours of independent study. The University may make minor variations to the contact hours for operational reasons, including timetabling requirements.
