Integrated research courses

You may be able to do a summer research placement as part of your course if you are:

  • a high-performing student on an eligible course
  • studying a degree where an intergrated placement is a requirement for the course
  • a first-generation scholar – you may be able to apply for paid research placements and summer internships.

Other research placement opportunities

You can also apply for external summer research placements, which are offered by research organisations in the UK and abroad. You can sometimes apply to other universities and get a summer placement on a research project.

These are not usually funded by Sussex but you might be able to apply for paid placements.

Junior research associate (JRA) scheme

At Sussex, most of our undergraduate research takes place within our Junior Research Associate scheme.

The eight-week programme is offered to all of our high-performing undergraduate students over the summer.

If you're accepted on to the scheme, you get a bursary to work on your research full time, work closely with supervisors, and network with other researchers. Find out more about the JRA scheme
