The Journey
This song depicts the various recurrent experiences and thoughts one might have on a tricky journey ofself-healing. It is somewhat of a logbook but in an overarching sense ofoptimism. This led the structure and relationship between vocal phrases and instrumentals to be rather sporadic, whilst the instrumental itself is comprised of solid foundations such as the vibrant guitar chords punchydrums, which were the first two recorded elements.
Passenger
This song was a good opportunity to write some lyrics about separation, reminiscence and nostalgia inrelationships with my friend Calino who sings and raps. I directed him whilst we recorded, requestingspecific flows, articulations and melodies I wanted to hear in his rapping, based on foundational lyricsheard in the hook/chorus sang by Will. Given the topic of the song and the balance of timbres in Calinoand Will’s voices, I was inclined to keep the instrumental fairly raw, to allow space for the narrative to develop.
